Hello,

Designing shelters for shelterless

Who I Am and What I Do

My name is Channveer Shankad,

I am an architect on a journey to explore the beauty of India, one village and one town at a time. My unconventional journey involves hitchhiking and immersing myself in the tapestry of local communities, absorbing their cultures, traditions, and architectural wonders.

Driven by a discerning eye for repurposing, for my refuge I craft emergency shelters from locally-sourced waste materials. These shelters, once my refuge, transform into gifts for those in need before I embark on my next adventure. My odyssey transcends mere travel; it evolves into a mission to weave a lasting impact, leaving behind not only memories but tangible contributions to the places and people I encounter.

Shelter 2 is created using bamboo, a readily available local material. The design not only brings out the beauty of bamboo but also shows how flexible it can be. One standout feature is its easy and quick dismantling, making it practical and adaptable in different situations.

SHELTER 4

Agartala, Tripura

Shelter 4 is built using bamboo and mesh fabric, and the idea behind its design is to transform a seating bench into a night shelter. The key feature is its versatility – it serves as both a seating area and a night shelter, making it a handy and multifunctional solution.
